Most trains and electric vehicles have a system that converts braking energy into electrical energy. The electrical power can be stored on board using capacitors or injected into the network catenary.
Jema Energy can provide a system where the braking recovery system can return power to the grid or store it in a persistent storage system.

Intelligent charging system.
When a depot is converted into an electric depot, new electrical power needs arise in the facilities. Jema can provide a smart charging system to reduce and optimise the power needed.
This is a control centre that efficiently manages all charging conditions/restrictions in the depot. The system identifies the different charging requirements of each bus in order to optimise the total power required.
It also has the following functions:
Smart charging functionality is included with the premium chargers. On the contrary, a device must be acquired separately to have this functionality in the standard solution.
500 kW – 600 kW OPPORTUNITY CHARGERS
Recommended when the vehicle does not have sufficient range to complete the journey and it is necessary to charge vehicles during travel. The charging stations are located at strategic points throughout the cities, at the end or start of each line, in order to charge or supply several buses or lines. This type of charger uses the time at the first or last stop on the line to charge batteries up to 90% in few minutes (typically 5 minutes).
Jema offer solutions up to 600 kW of power. All the chargers are bi-directional which makes G2V and V2G energy flow possible. Charging is done in accordance with the ISO 15118 standard. Like the in-depot chargers, they have remote access to all data with the Modbus TCP/IP or OCPP 1.6 protocols.
The connection with the vehicle is made using a 4 or 5 pole pantograph.
The system includes the automatic pantograph contact, contact plates and the infrastructure equipment that automatically connects the vehicle to the pantograph.
In addition to being able to place charging stations at strategic points in cities, it also offers the possibility to completely automate slow charging in depots by installing and commissioning vaulted contact structures above the parking spaces.
Jema can also provide the entire turnkey system for installing opportunity chargers connected to the medium voltage grid with the certificates required by electrical operators.
The IP protection of the chargers is IP20, which means they can only be used indoors. With turnkey solutions, chargers and medium voltage connections can be grouped in pre-fabricated containers or sheds so they can be installed outdoors.
DEPOT CHARGERS / OVERNIGHT CHARGERS
The smart chargers developed by Jema Energy are high quality products that have been created to maximise the performance of the facilities and minimise operations and maintenance costs.
Interoperability: The chargers are interoperable and conform with ISO 15118 [-1,-2,-3] and IEC 61851 [-1,-23,-24] standards. Because of that, the chargers can be used with any brand and offer greater flexibility for depots and operation lines.
The main characteristics of the chargers are shown below:
The standard charger solution, also known as the I2E family, offer an indoor and an outdoor solution.
The outdoor solution I2E80 is an 80 kW charger with IP54 protection.
The indoor solution is a 100 kW charger with IP20 protection.
Remote monitoring capabilities and management of a fleet is possible with this family of chargers using an additional device SMCU (Smart Control Unit).
The premium charger solution, also known as the ECI family, is a modular 50 kW design. Members of the family are 50 kW, 100 kW, 150 kW and 2×50 kW*.
All the chargers in the family have IP54 protection, which means they can be installed either outside or in a sheltered area. With the redesign, the volume has been reduced 35% from the first generation and there is redundancy with variable flows in the cooling.
Other features that set the premium solution apart from the standard solution include:
